Parent Educator (Part-Time)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certification in one of the following: Elementary Education, Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Human Development and Family Studies, Family and Consumer Sciences OR a four-year degree with two years of successful experience working with children and families.
- Demonstrate ability to partner with families and empower them by building on their strengths.
- Possess the knowledge, skills, abilities and physical attributes to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Parents as Teachers Supervisor
JOB GOAL: A parent educator works with families with children from prenatal to kindergarten entry using skills in partnering, facilitating and reflecting with parents. Parent educators provide parent education and family support to enhance the quality of parenting, increase a parent’s understanding of child development and work with parents to help their child learn, grow and develop to meet their full potential.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans and provides individualized visits with families in their homes using the Parents as Teachers Foundational Curriculum. Up to 25% of home visits may occur between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 PM.
- Keeps and maintains records and all required forms for each family in a timely manner.
- Attends and supports group connections with families as required.
- Attends staff meetings.
- Administers developmental, health, vision and hearing screenings annually for children ages 3 months to pre-kindergarten.
- Meets with supervisor for monthly individual reflective supervision session.
- Complete required professional development hours annually to maintain Parents as Teachers certification.
- Assist in ongoing district-wide early childhood screenings.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and appropriate relationships with families, co-workers and other professionals.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Adheres to all district policies and procedures.
- Other assigned duties as required.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Be organized, independent and self-motivated.
- Be competent with technology including email, internet, and the web-based record keeping systems.
- Personal, reliable transportation to provide home visits throughout the school district.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine, ten, eleven, or twelve-month year. Salary and work year to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated by the immediate supervisor.
