QUALIFICATIONS:
- Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
- Two-year minimum experience as a school bus mechanic or with equivalent experience with medium and heavy-duty single axle vehicles.
- Must have a background in air and hydraulic brakes, diesel and gas engines, and automatic and standard transmissions.
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.
REPORTS TO: Mechanic Supervisor
JOB GOAL: To keep the district’s buses in a state of operating excellence so that they present no problems or interruptions to the education process.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. - Maintain an MVI license.
- Assist in the inspecting of buses.
- Assist in the diagnosing of repair needs.
- Perform routine maintenance of buses.
- Repair buses according to industry and safety standards.
- Reports to the Supervisor any areas of concern pertaining to the safe operation of buses.
- Possess and maintain a current class B CDL with air brake, school bus and passenger endorsement.
- Work overtime as required by the Director of Transportation or designee.
- Drive a regular route or activity when called upon.
- Must be able to prioritize jobs for maximum efficiency.
- Must be able to work independently and under pressure.
- Must be able to lift at least 80 pounds on a regular basis.
- Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
- Adheres to good safety practices.
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
- Other duties as required or assigned.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.
FLSA: Non-exempt
RETIREMENT: Public School Retirement System (PSRS) or Public Education Employee Retirement System (PEERS) eligibility will be determined by the state of Missouri.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Obtain and/or maintain a CDL Class B and an MVI license
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
