JOB GOAL:

The goal of this position is to dramatically increase the number of students engaged in a career internship. The role of the Career Internship Teacher is a unique opportunity designed for educators passionate about guiding and shaping the next generation of high school students interested in exploring diverse career paths. The teacher will create relevant online course work related to employability skills and Portrait of a Graduate competencies. Additionally, the teacher will be responsible for teaching the internship course, which will meet face to face with students on a weekly basis in a classroom setting and/or virtually.

The Career Internship Teacher will guide students through structured learning experiences, aiding them in acquiring practical skills, industry insights, and professional conduct by meeting with students about overall interest and connecting with business/professionals to find appropriate placements and ensure expectations are met. 

 

Once placement has occurred the teacher will visit the student at the job site 2-3 times per semester (Per DESE guidelines) to ensure partnership expectations are being met for both students, companies, and organizations. This position spans the duration of a semester, extending over several weeks to facilitate a transformative learning experience.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

 

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

                                                                                                    

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to Board policies. Must be willing to work summer school to complete work with students.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES:  Valid Missouri Teaching Certificate

 

CLEARANCES:  Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

 

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Teacher Evaluation process.
