QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the completion of a high school diploma.
  2. Prior experience operating and maintaining diesel, gasoline, and electrically powered motors and machinery and applicable attachments.
  3. Previous horticulture experience preferred.
  4. Ability to sufficiently read and understand labels, instructions, and directions as they pertain to work performance, safety, and record keeping aspects of the job.
  5. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  6. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

  1. Operates and maintains diesel, gasoline, and electrically powered motors and machinery as well as applicable attached implements or equipment. Attached implements include mowing machines, tillers, loaders, backhoes, hole augers, plows, disks, aerators, compactors, spreaders, seeders, and sprayers.
  2. Operates and maintains compressed air equipment such as cutting/grinding tools, air wrenches, and spraying equipment.
  3. Works with an assortment of hand tools such as grass and shrubbery trimmers, hoes, rakes, shovels, augers, picks, and small gasoline and electrically powered hand tools.
  4. Maintains and cares for school grounds. Assembles and installs equipment and fixtures for playground equipment. Mows lawns with hand, power, or riding mower. Prunes, trims, and fertilizes as needed. Collects and properly disposes of refuse.
  5. Provides snow removal from sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots and spreads sand and salt to prevent slipping.
  6. Maintains an assortment of tools, vehicles, tractors, equipment, and machinery by cleaning, lubricating, washing, and painting.
  7. Works inside during winter on tasks assigned by the supervisor.
  8. Performs landscape duties to include tree and shrub selection, weed and insect control, and fertilization as needed.
  9. Adheres to good safety practices.
  10. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  11. Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  12. Other duties as required or assigned.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                                                     The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a person to lift 140 lbs. 0-24 inches, carry 80 lbs. 10 feet, and kneel/squat for 30 seconds.

 

 

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:                         The work environment is consistent with grounds/mowing work and spends a significant amount of time outside during all seasons.

                                                                                                    

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                                           Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.
