EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR – SPECIAL EDUCATION (PROFESSIONAL STAFF)

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’s degree in educational administration.
  • Valid Missouri Certification in Administration.
  • Substantial background and varied experiences in Special Education preferred.
  • Possesses the necessary knowledge to complete essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Deputy Superintendent, Academics

 

JOB GOAL: The job of the Executive Director of Special Education is to direct special education programs and services, provide information to serve as resources to others, and achieve defined objectives by planning, evaluating, developing, implementing, and maintaining services in compliance with established guidelines.  

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborates with internal and external personnel to implement and/or maintain services and programs.
  • Collaborates with human resources to perform personnel functions to maintain adequate staffing, enhance personnel productivity, and achieve objectives within the budget.
  • Complies with data from a wide variety of sources to analyze issues, ensure compliance with organization policies and procedures, and/or monitor program components.
  • Consults with legal representation to ensure compliance with legal standards.
  • Coordinates program components, support needs, and materials to deliver services that conform to established state and district guidelines.
  • Ensures Dese's required documentation and processes are completed and submitted within established timelines to maintain district compliance with IDEA.
  • Implements assigned programs that align with individualized education programs to meet all students' unique learning and behavioral needs.
  • Attends Board meetings when necessary.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Adheres to good safety practices.
  • Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position must regularly walk, hear, and speak and have close, moderate, and distance vision ability.  This individual must be able to travel between district facilities.  The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.

 

 

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with a typical office/school environment.

                                                                                                    

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education.  Benefits according to Board policies. 

 

 

FLSA: Exempt

 

 

RETIREMENT: Public School Retirement System (PSRS)

 

 

CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

 

 

EVALUATION: The performance of this job will be evaluated by provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Administrator Evaluation process.
