REPORTS TO:                                                     Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL:                                                          To provide each high school student an opportunity to participate in an extracurricular athletic activity that will foster physical skills, a sense of worth and competence, a knowledge and understanding of the pleasures of sport, and the principles of fair play.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Organizes and administers the overall program of extracurricular athletics, both club and interscholastic, for the high school.
  • Provides leadership in the selection, assignment, and evaluation of athletic coaches and staff members.
  • Fosters good school-community relations by keeping the community aware of and responsive to the extra-curricular activities.
  • Assumes responsibility for the organization and scheduling of all interscholastic athletic events.
  • Hires officials, event works, security, and assumes general responsibility for the proper supervision of all athletic contests and other activities.
  • Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants.
  • Arranges provision for meals for athletes and coaches when appropriate.
  • Develops and places into operation appropriate rules and regulations governing the conduct of athletic activities.
  • Verifies each athlete’s eligibility according to established MSHSAA guidelines.
  • Prepares and administers the athletic program budget working with the principal of the building.
  • Requisitions program supplies and equipment.
  • Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the activity programs, and assumes responsibility for proper handling of funds.
  • Arranges all details for visiting teams as appropriate.
  • Makes arrangements for non-school use of playing fields and facilities including building rental.
  • Arranges field and gym practice schedules.
  • Responsible for acquainting coaching staff and students with major rules and regulations that must be followed in order to maintain athletic eligibility.
  • Administers the insurance program covering school athletes, and assumes responsibility for all processing of reports and claims.
  • Keeps records of the results of all junior and senior high school athletic contests, and maintains a permanent record of all award winners, stating the date and type of award, including athletic scholarships.

 

  • Directs an in-school, extracurricular program designed to foster support for the athletic teams and school spirit among non-participants.
  • Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.
  • Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  • Complies with good safety practices.
  • Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Other duties as required or assigned.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:                                                     The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel.

 

 

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:                         The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

                                                                                                    

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                                           Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education.  Benefits according to Board policies.

CLEARANCES:                                                                    Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance

 

 

EVALUATION:                                                                    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Administrator Evaluation process.
