SPEECH & LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST ASSISTANT
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor of Science degree in Communication Disorders, Speech-Language Pathology, or related field within leveling coursework as defined by a College or University with a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association OR graduation from an accredited program or University with an Associates degree as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant from a program accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Possess a valid Missouri Board of Healing Arts registration as a Speech Language Pathology Assistant
- Expressed knowledge of the Ethical Rules of Conduct as set forth by the Missouri Board of Healing Arts and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association
- Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education, Coordinator – of Special Education, Building Administrator
JOB GOAL: To improve the speech and/or language of students that have been identified as
having speech and/or language disabilities that interfere with the child’s ability
to derive full benefit from the educational program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Accepts assignments through the Special Education Department
- Conducts speech-language screenings, without interpretation, using age-appropriate screening protocols developed by the Supervising Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)
- Follows documented treatment plans and/or protocols developed by the Supervising SLP
- Documents student performance and reports information to Supervising SLP
- Scheduling activities and preparing student records, graphs, data, and other clerical duties for the Supervising SLP.
- Performing checks and maintenance on equipment including, but not limited to, augmentative communication devices
- Prepare materials, prioritize and schedule items, working independently to follow plans
- Maintain confidentiality
- Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills
- Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies
- Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position
- Other duties/responsibilities deemed necessary may be assigned
Activities, Duties, and Functions Outside the Scope of Responsibilities for an SLP-A
- Participation in conferences and IDEA compliance meetings without the Supervising SLP
- Providing counseling or advice to family
- Signing any documents in lieu of the Supervising SLP
- Discharging services for students
- Making referrals for services
- Disclosing information in writing to anyone not designated by the Supervising SLP
- Representing him/herself as a Speech-Language Pathologist
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate, and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT: The work environment is consistent with the typical office/school environment.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board of Education. Benefits according to Board policies.
FLSA: Non-Exempt

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES: Class E Driver’s License and Board of Healing Arts Registration
CLEARANCES: Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
