  1. Licensed in the State of Missouri as a Registered Nurse.
  2. Is CPR trained.

JOB GOAL:                                                                  To provide the fullest possible educational opportunity for each

                                                                                     climate of health and well-being in the district schools.

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Plan, organize, and coordinate a method of providing first aid and emergency care as well as care of the ill student.
  2. Assume responsibility for maintenance of the health room, including ordering of supplies and equipment.
  3. Follows district policy for administration of medications.
  4. Monitors accident reports to identify potential hazards and encourage their elimination. system.
  5. Participates in the development and revision of written first aid and emergency policies.
  6. Administers first aid, care and comfort to ill or injured students as provided by written health policies and guidelines, and as trained.
  7. Measures and records temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure and other symptoms by the student.
  8. Maintains a record of all children seen for health related problems.
  9. Document nursing assessment and care on student health record.
  10. Administer nursing care and consultation to school personnel.
  11. Assess and evaluate the health and development status of students through appropriate screening techniques.
  12. Monitor initial screening programs in schools served and provide secondary screening prior to referral.
  13. Assume responsibility for selection and referral of students identified by the screening process as needing medical or other care.
  14. Compile information, including observations, appropriate medical records, and screening results. Interpret this data to students, their families, and school personnel
  15. Maintain health records and use the information accumulated to initiate preventive, remedial, or rehabilitative action.
  16. Monitor pupil immunizations as required by law.
  17. Supervise the recording of screening data and other significant information in cumulative health record.
  18. Maintain cumulative health records and perform clerical duties as local school policy allows.
  19. Perform routine initial screening procedures
  20. Participate in health screening, planned and unplanned, with individuals and groups to assist student(s) in improving their health status and promoting self-care, decision making and wellness behavior
  21. Interpret nursing assessments and medical evaluations to students, families, and school personnel
  22. Plan and implement school health guidelines for the child with handicapping conditions and chronic health problems, including the administration of medications.
  23. Plan and monitor daily care of students with handicapping conditions.
  24. Perform follow-up nursing care on children with identified health needs.
  25. Assist in identifying and reporting suspected child abuse and neglect.
  26. Make home visits as appropriate or necessary.
  27. Serve as liaison between the school, the home, private physicians, health and social agencies, and other community resources to assure appropriate utilization of all available resources for student health needs.
  28. Coordinate, conduct, and/or participate in community outreach programs.
  29. Incorporate health teaching in all activities performed.
  30. Participate as a team member in developing and evaluating IEPs needed for students with special health problems.
  31. Participate in a team approach to health education by providing expertise to supplement the curriculum and methodologies which are the realm of the classroom teacher.
  32. Provide teachers with up-to-date, accurate resource materials for classroom instruction.
  33. Assist parents to learn about health problems and aspects of parental responsibility for the health care and maintenance of their children.
  34. Provide orientation, training, and direction for health aids.
  35. Provide relevant health instruction, counseling and guidance to students, school personnel, and families.
  36. Plan, initiate and monitor preventive programs.
  37. Compile accurate data and utilize research for planning, implementing, and evaluating school health programs.
  38. Develop & maintain knowledge base portal. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  39. Complies with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  40. Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
  41. Other duties as required or assigned.

 

 

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:                                         The individual who holds this position is regularly required to walk, hear and speak and must have close moderate and distance vision ability. This individual must be able to travel between district facilities. The position requires a moderate amount of travel and physical activity.
