SCHOOL COMMUNITY RESOURCE SPECIALIST

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Master of Social Work or comparable program of preparation and degree.
  2. Prior experience in an educational setting preferred.
  3. Possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities, and physical attributes necessary to perform the essential functions of the position.
  4. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

 

 

REPORTS TO:                                                                     Director of Student Services, Building Principal

 

JOB GOAL:                                                                          School Community Resource Specialists assist students with academic learning by providing strategic services that identify and address the social-emotional-environmental issues that interfere with the educational process. Working with parents/guardians, teachers, school administrators, and community based resources, the School Community Resource Specialist implements strategies that promote students’ positive school adjustment.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as a liaison between families and the school to positively promote collaborative processes in educational planning for students by encouraging parent/guardian participation in the school setting.
  2. Serves as liaison with community agencies and assists in fostering communication between schools, parents/guardians, and community leaders.
  3. Identifies and assesses academic problems through analysis of factors impinging on student adjustment including factors in the home, school, and community.
  4. Determines and implements appropriate strategies to effect changes in behavioral –social interactions of students and their families.
  5. Provides individual and group counseling to students and their families.
  6. Provides parent/guardian educational workshops on identified issues related to child   development, stress reduction, discipline and safety, and teacher/parent/student communication.
  7. Collaborates with school staff and other school system personnel in implementing strategies to promote student learning.
  8. Participates as a member of problem solving and other school based teams to develop interventions for promoting students’ academic success.
  9. Serves on both school-based and system-wide committees to address educational issues, adjustment problems, safety issues, and program development for students.
  10. Provides crisis intervention services.
  11. Provides case management for students and families.
  12. Provides staff consultation on behavioral-emotional-environmental issues affecting student participation in the learning process.
  13. Conducts staff development on issues related to social-emotional-environmental factors that impact learning.
  14. Develops programs to address parent/guardian participation in the school and student engagement in the educational process.
  15. Conducts classroom meetings, social skills groups, and classroom presentations on identified areas of concern for the students.
  16. Maintains required clinical records and submits appropriate documents for statistical reports with adherence to program standards in school social work.
  17. Conducts home visits related to establishing communication and positive connections between the parent/guardian and school setting around identified issues.
  18. Completes risk assessments on referred students.
  19. Locates and mobilizes community resources to support the educational program.
  20. Demonstrates effective human relations and communication skills.
  21. Adheres to good safety practices.
  22. Comply with all district rules, regulations, and policies.
  23. Other duties as required or assigned.

 

CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT:                         The work environment is consistent with typical office/school environment.

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                                           Salary and work calendar to be established by the Board Of Education.  Benefits according to Board policies.

EVALUATION:                                                                    Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluations utilizing the Performance Based Support Staff Evaluation process.
